DAHLONEGA, GA
– With the North Georgia College & State University
women’s soccer team less than 24 hours away from the start of
the 2009 season, the sports information office has released the
media guide to the public.
Friday at 4:00 p.m., the Lady Saints will take the field against
the University of Tampa for the official opening to the 2009
season. The Spartans, ranked 24th in the NSCAA Division II
Preseason Top 25 are just two years removed from an NCAA Division
II National Championship, and take on North Georgia for the second
consecutive season. Last season at the NGCSU Soccer Complex, Tampa
scored a pair of first half goals on their way to a 3-1 victory
over the Lady Saints.
The University of Tampa will provide live statistics and live audio of the contest Friday afternoon as both teams play their regular season opener.

North Georgia enters the 2009 season picked to finish sixth in the
Peach Belt Conference according to the league’s preseason
poll voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches.
The coaching staff will look to two-time PBC Preseason
All-Conference selection Casey Smith to lead the defense, while
2008 First-Team All-Conference picks Danielle Brannan and Kelly
Martin will patrol the midfield. Lauren Schenk will look to
continue her storied career as a member of the Lady Saints, having
scored 21 goals during her first two years and earning
All-Conference honors during both seasons.
Head Coach Chris Adams enters his seventh season at the helm of
the Lady Saints, holding a record of 46-52-10 (.472) during his
tenure at North Georgia. In 2009, Adams will look to lead his squad
past the first round of the PBC Tournament and into the NCAA
Tournament for the first time in school history.
