DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia College
& State University women’s soccer team find themselves
ranked sixth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America
Division II Southeast Regional Ranking.
This marks just the second time since entering the NCAA fours ago
the Lady Saints have been ranked in the poll after rounding out the
poll at number 10 during the first weeks of the 2008 season.
Peach Belt Conference dominates the poll, holding five of the top
six spots in the ranking as those five league teams remain
undefeated with a combined record of 7-0-2 overall.
Columbus State tops the first poll of the season, recording a
scoreless tie against the 5th-ranked team in the country in Grand
Valley State in their only game of the week, while Armstrong
Atlantic is second, Carson-Newman third, UNC Pembroke fourth, GCSU
fifth, and North Georgia is sixth. A pair of school from the South
Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas round out the top 10
of the Southeast Regional Ranking.
The Lady Saints return to action on Friday evening, playing the
final contest of a three-game road trip to start the season as they
travel to the University of West Georgia to take on the Wolves at
4:00 p.m. The two teams battled to a double overtime scoreless tie
last season in Dahlonega, as North Georgia is 1-0-1 all-time
against their in-state rival.
