DAHLONEGA, GA - For a record fourth time this
season, North Georgia women’s soccer standout Casey Smith has
been tabbed as the Peach Belt Conference Defender of the Week,
leading the Lady Saints to a trio of league victories and back into
the middle of the PBC title race.
Casey Smith continued her productive season last week with a goal
and two assists, leading the Lady Saints to three victories and
extending the program’s unbeaten streak to six games.
Against the University of Montevallo, Smith picked up her seventh
assists of the season in the 47th minute. The Stockbridge, Ga.,
native then led the North Georgia defense to 3rd-ranked Columbus
State, shocking the Cougars with a 1-0 victory, handing CSU their
first loss of the season.
Smith took control in the final game of the week, assisting in the
game-winning goal against Flagler, before scoring the game’s
final goal with a corner kick that sailed just inside the far post,
giving the Lady Saints a 3-0 victory.
The North Georgia defense allowed just one goal in three games,
while moving up to third place in the PBC standings. Smith is third
in the Peach Belt Conference in assists with eight, while anchoring
a defense that has allowed just 1.13 goals per game, good for
fourth in the league.
