DAHLONEGA, GA – For the third time this
season, North Georgia women’s soccer standout Casey Smith was
been tabbed as the Peach Belt Conference Defender of the Week,
leading the Lady Saints to a pair of league victories and back into
the middle of the PBC title race.
Smith continued her productivity from the defender position last
week, scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist as North Georgia
pushed their current unbeaten streak to 20 days with victories over
Georgia Southwestern and Armstrong Atlantic.
Against the Hurricanes, Smith took control early in the second
half and turned a scoreless game into a 2-0 lead for the Lady
Saints in the first three minutes of the second period. Smith
showed off her accuracy by scoring both goals outside the box.
Against the Pirates, the Stockbridge, Ga., native tallied an
assist on the game-winning goal, sending a corner into the box that
found the head of Kelsey Martin for the score. Smith is currently
third in the league with seven assists on the season, while adding
four goals.
The two-time PBC All-Conference selection, and two-time Peach Belt
Preseason All-conference pick is currently third in the league with
seven assists on the season, while sitting third on the team with
four goals. Smith has 15 total points on the season, and is two
assists away from breaking her own record for most assists in a
season, while the junior continues to extend her current career
record of 24 assists, the most in program history.
During the Lady Saints current four-game winning streak, Smith has
come up big, scoring a pair of goals and adding four assists to
spark North Georgia’s jump right back into the top four of
the Peach Belt Conference regular season race.
