Women's Soccer Sign Five for 2010 Campaign
DAHLONEGA, GA
– The North Georgia College & State University
women’s soccer program has announced the addition of five
high school players from the State of Georgia will make their way
to Dahlonega to play for the Lady Saints for the 2010 season.
North Georgia returns 10 of 11 starters for the 2010 campaign
after recording their best finish ever in 2009, finishing the year
10-5-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Lady
Saints posted a six-game winning streak during the season and
received votes in back-to-back weeks to be ranked in the NCAA
Division II top 25 poll.
"This years signing class meets the
needs of our program extremely well,” head women’s
soccer coach Chris Adams said of the five incoming
players.
“The soccer pedigree of this class should allow them to come
in and mesh with our talented returning players immediately. This
combination of youth and experience will result in an extremely
exciting team for 2010!"
Whitley Dover, Canton, GA
NASA 10 Elite/Creekview High School - 5’5” Forward
Dover has been one of the most prolific scorers in the state of Georgia the past three seasons. combining for 69 goals and 28 assists over three seasons at Creekview High School for Head Coach Kerri Schmitt. She was named First-Team All-County in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and to the All-Region Team in 2009. Dover has been a part of the North Atlanta Soccer Association’s 10 Elite team playing for Coach Jay Denslow. She led NASA 10 Elite to a 2009 State Cup Finals appearance.
Mackenzie Robbins, Peachtree City, GA
Concorde Fire South 92/ Starrs Mill High School - 5’6” Defender
Robbins was a member of the 1991 Georgia ODP State pool in 2007 and 2008. During this time she played club soccer for Concorde Fire South and Head Coach Brian Moore. In 2009, Robbins helped lead Concorde to Georgia State Cup Semi-Finals birth. While at Starrs Mill, Robbins played a key role in her team advancing to the Georgia High School AAAA Semi-Finals. During that run, she was selected to the 5AAAA All-Region Defense Team.
Brittany Schmidt, Peachtree City, GA
Concorde Fire South 92/McIntosh High School - 5’6” Defender
In 2009, Schmidt played center back for her Concorde team that reached the Georgia State Cup Semi-Finals. Along with fellow North Georgia signees Robbins and Wright, she anchored a backline for Coach Brian Moore. After completing a successful career at McIntosh High School, Brittany will be a valuable addition as a center back for the Lady Saints in 2010.
Caroline Wallace, Winterville, GA
GSA ’93 Phoenix Red/Oglethorpe County High School - 5’9” Midfielder
Wallace comes to North Georgia with remarkable club credentials. As a central midfielder for GSA, she is a four-time Georgia State Cup Champion from 2006-2009. Under the coaching of Campbell Chapman, she also tallied Region III Premier League East Championships in 2007 and 2009. Wallace was also named Most Valuable Player for her high school in 2007, 2008, 2009.
Ashley Wright, Columbus, GA
Concorde Fire South 92/Hardaway High School - 5’7” Defender
Wright will come to Dahlonega after a tremendous club career for Concorde Fire and Head Coach Brian Moore. She was also a member of the 1992 Georgia State ODP pool in 2007. Wright played a significant role in Concorde’s run to the State Semi-Finals in 2009. After finishing her career at Hardaway High School, Wright should compete for playing time immediately along the backline for the Lady Saints.
