COLUMBUS, GA – The 10th-ranked North Georgia women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the year on Wednesday evening, as they faced an early deficit before falling 1-0 to Columbus State University at the Walden Soccer Complex.

The Lady Saints suffer their first setback of the 2011 campaign, falling to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in Peach Belt Conference action. The Cougars are starting to heat up in conference play, winning their third straight match and improving to 9-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in league play.

While North Georgia dominated the first 15 minutes of action, Columbus State struck first in the 20th minute when Kansas Bayly fired a strike inside the left post to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage. Amber Wright played the ball to Bayly who curled her shot just inside the far post for her fourth goal of the year.

The Lady Saints nearly responded three minutes later when North Georgia lined up for their first corner kick of the game and Taylor Lee found the head of Emily Dover, but the senior's header was high of the mark and went out for a goal kick.

North Georgia entered the second half with all the momentum early, firing shots at Columbus State goalkeeper Mary Mancin early and often, but the Lady Saints never found the back of the net.

Dover had the best chance in the 67th minute when a ball was deflected to Dover and she spun and fired a laser that was just deflected by the leaping Mancin to keep the Lady Saints off the board.

The last chance for North Georgia came for Kayla Croom in the 79th minute when she fired a shot on target, but a defender stepped in and blocked the attempt to secure the shutout for the Cougars.

Columbus State outshot the Lady Saints 14-8 in the contest, and held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Kirsten Ross suffered her first loss of the year in goal for North Georgia, tallying five saves and allowing the lone goal. Mancin's lone save of the day proved to be enough to notch the shutout and give the Cougars the victory.

The Lady Saints continue their final road trip of the year Saturday afternoon, traveling to Georgia College for a battle with the Bobcats in Peach Belt Conference action. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Milledgeville, Georgia.
