Total Team Effort Lifts Women’s Soccer to 4-1 Road Victory Over Flagler
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Four different players scored for the North Georgia College & State University women's soccer team as the Saints cruised to a 4-1 Peach Belt Conference road victory over Flagler College Saturday night.
The win improves the visiting Saints to 11-3-2 overall including a 4-3-2 record in the PBC while Flagler moves to 7-5-3 and 2-5-2 in league action.
North Georgia went up 3-0 in the first half as Caroline Wallace, Sophia Matonak and Cicely Taliaferro all scored within three minutes of each other. Wallace spurred the scoring drive with her seventh goal of the season in the 25th minute off a feed from Abby Trevino, putting the Saints up 1-0.
Nearly a minute later, Matonak registered her fifth goal of the season before Taliaferro netted the third score of the half to cap the three-minute scoring barrage. Taliaferro's goal was her seventh score of the season.
Nearly 10 minutes would pass into the second half before Leanne South put the game away with her second score of the season.
Flagler's Lindsay Zulio avoided the shutout in the 88th minute when she scored her fourth goal of the season.
The two Saints were tied 13-13 in shots with the Flagler Saints holding a slight 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Mallory Sayre stood tall between the pipes for North Georgia as she made six saves in just over 76 minutes of play to record her 11th win of the year. Cristina Coca made five saves of her own to accept the loss in goal for Flagler.
North Georgia has one more road contest for the regular-season, coming on Wednesday, Oct. 24. The Saints will travel to Greenwood, S.C. to take on Lander University at 4:30 p.m. in a PBC soccer doubleheader with the men following at 7:00 p.m. The Bearcat women stunned nationally-ranked Columbus State 2-0 Saturday to keep the conference race interesting.
