Late Flurry Leads Nighthawks Past Lincoln Memorial In Home Opener

DAHLONEGA, Georgia – ( – Visiting Lincoln Memorial University pushed the UNG women's soccer team to the brink for 75 minutes, but a pair of late goals in the final 15:00 provided the spark needed for the Nighthawks to pull off the 2-1 non-conference victory.

After a scoreless first half, LMU was able to break through with a goal just under a minute into the second half as Nicole McKinney scored an unassisted goal off a rebound.

The LMU defense would hold the Nighthawks at bay despite UNG holding a 15-2 advantage in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

UNG's Kelly Penston found the equalizer with just under 15:00 remaining in the game as the senior used an assist from Jessica Dacey to level the score at a goal apiece.

Just five minutes later at the 80:40 mark, Jacy Ramey tallied her first career goal with a header from just in front of the goal with the assist coming off of a Megan Morrow corner kick.

UNG's Mallory Sayre recorded the win in goal turning away one Railsplitter shot. Her counterpart, Kayla Stephens, tallied eight saves.

North Georgia (2-1) returns to action on Saturday, September 14 when the team travels to Banner Elk, N.C. to take on Lees-McRae in non-conference action.  Kick off is set for 2:00 PM.
