#15 UNG Women's Soccer Team Blanks West Georgia 3-0 For Fourth Consecutive Victory
CARROLLTON, Georgia – (UNGAthletics.com) – The #15-ranked UNG women's soccer team extended its winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 non-conference road victory at the University of West Georgia Tuesday at UWG's University Field.
North Georgia (4-1) outshot UWG 27-8, including 12 to 2 in shots on target. In goal Mallory Sayre and Rachel Allred pitched in with 45:00 apiece in between the pipes and combined for the shutout turning away both Wolves' shots. Each keeper recorded a single save.
With 3:33 left in the first half, North Georgia's Kassidy Freeman got the ball in the mouth of the goal and put it away for the first goal of the match. The goal was the sophomore forward's first of the season and would prove to be the eventual game-winner.
A pair of second half goals by senior Kelly Penston added final insurance on the Nighthawk's fourth consecutive victory. The goals are the third and fourth of the season for the reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week. Megan Morrow assisted on the game's final goal marking the junior's first helper of the year.
North Georgia would take all but one of the game's eight corner kicks.
UNG returns to action on Saturday, September 21 when the team makes the 42-mile trek over Blood Mountain to open up PBC play at Young Harris College with game time set for 1:30. The game will be the first competition of the Battle of Blood Mountain which is in its first year as an annual department-wide athletic competition between North Georgia and YHC.
