MONTEVALLO, Ala. – A day after dropping an extremely close decision on the road, the University of North Georgia women's tennis team bounced back by winning a similarly close Peach Belt Conference match 5-4 over the University of Montevallo.
The Saints (8-11, 3-9 PBC) once again fell behind 2-1 early in the match to the Falcons (8-11, 3-9 PBC) in doubles action with Cameron Williams and Adalyn Hazelman claiming their seventh win in a row at No. 2 doubles 8-5 over Allison Howell and Haley Highfield.
The Falcons then stretched their lead out to 3-1 after Niki Polcerova defeated Williams at No. 1 singles but Mathilda Baartvedt and Nela Handac won their matches to tie things up with three match ups left to be decided. Baartvedt won at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-1 while Handac claimed the No. 6 spot with a 6-2, 7-6 decision.
Both No. 3 and No. 4 singles came extended through three sets with Adalyn Hazelman winning at No. 4 singles while Natalia Escobar fell at No. 3, leaving the match in the hands of Jordan Poole and Juanita Ossa. Poole ultimately claimed the match for the Saints in straight sets as she and Ossa were the last match up playing.
Both the 32nd-ranked men's team and the women will next travel to Aiken, S.C. where they will take on the nationally-ranked men and the women's squad of the University of South Carolina Aiken on Tuesday, Apr. 9. The match is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m.
