MACON, GA – The North Georgia women’s
cross country team had their best finish of the season Saturday
morning, finishing 8th in a field of 20 teams at the Mercer
University RunFit Sports Invitational, the Lady Saints fourth event
in as many weeks to open the 2009 season.
Kennesaw State University captured the team victory at the event,
claiming the top two individual spots on their way to 75 total
points, while Florida Southern was second, the University of West
Georgia was third, and the University of Montevallo was fourth,
just ahead of PBC rivals GCSU (179), Columbus State (182), Clayton
State (209). North Georgia followed Clayton State with 243 total
points.
Katie Vance led the Lady Saints, finishing the 5,000-meter course
in 20:35 good for 22nd place overall. Samantha Silvers was 13
places behind Vance, crossing the line in 35th place with a time of
21:10.
Taylor Hansen was third on the team, finishing in 46th overall in
21:30, while Becky Dunn finished in 71st place with a time of
22:08.
Candace Chumley rounded out the top five and the scoring for North
Georgia, running the 5k course in 22:15, good for 78th place
overall.
North Georgia returns to action on Saturday, October 10, traveling
to Jacksonville State University for the Foothill Invitational, the
site of the Saints’ first race of the season.
