MOUNT BERRY, GA
– The North Georgia College & State University
men’s cross country team finished in the middle of the pack
Saturday morning at the 2009 Berry College Cross Country
Invitational, coming in 10th in the field of 20 teams.
The Saints finished the event in 10th place, posting 311 points,
while Bryan College placed three runners in the top 10 to win the
event with 44 total points. In-state and Peach Belt Conference
rival Columbus State University captured the runner-up award with
61 points, while Shorter College was third.
Columbus State dominated the individual race battle, taking first
and second place as Meshack Koyiaki paced below five-minute miles
to win the event in 24:33.32. His teammate Nicholas Kering was
right behind him in second place with a time of 25:01.58, while
Clayton State standout Fidelis Mutiso was third in a time of
25:53.61.
Tyler Mattix placed in the top 50 for North Georgia, coming in
43rd place with a time of 28:00.41 to lead the team, while Charlie
McKinney was second on the squad with a time of 29:02.25, good for
72nd place overall.
Charles Beusse was third on the team in 77th place with a time of
29:11.88, while Teale Marchette finished in 87 place, crossing the
line in 29:43.11. Nicholas Bava finished the scoring for North
Georgia in 91st place, averaging 6:00.3 minutes per mile for a
total time of 29:50.88.
The Saints return to action Saturday September 19, traveling to
the University of Georgia to compete against some of the best teams
in the country. The shotgun start is set for 8:00 a.m.
