– The North Georgia track & field teams competed over the
weekend at the Peach Belt Challenge hosted by Columbus State
University at the Smiths Station Track Complex.
The women took fourth in the field of seven teams as Columbus State
was winner and Tuskegee was second, while on the men’s side,
the Saints were third in the five-team field as once again,
Columbus State took home the title.
On the men’s side North Georgia posted a handful of
impressive performances as Stephen Eckenroth took home the title in
the high jump, clearing 1.97 meters in the finals to top the
six-individual event. He also took second in the long jump and
third in the triple jump.
William Leighton also grabbed a pair of victories, taking the
discus throw at 37.20 meters, while also coming out on top in the
javelin throw at 37.90 meters.
The Saints had a pair of top five finishers in the 100-meter dash
as Christian Duguay was fourth and Ethan Hopkins fifth with times
of 11.49 and 11.54 seconds respectively.
The women also had several notable finishes as Candace Chumley was
fifth in the 3,000 meter run, while taking second in the 5,000
meter event. T. Jaye Hasen, Katie Vance, and Samantha Silvers all
finished in the top seven in the 800-meter event, while Courtney
Cantrell was victories in the discus throw at 35.70 meters in the
finals.
North Georgia returns to action at the Western Carolina University
Invitational on April 16, their final event of the spring season.
