OXFORD, AL – The North Georgia women’s cross country returned to action Saturday morning after a week off, posting their best times of the season at the Jacksonville State University Foothills Invitational and finishing fifth in the field of 10 teams.

Emory University proved to be the best team in the field, placing five runners in the top seven places to post a total score of 20 points and capture the title. Jacksonville State was the runner-up, coming in with 64 points, while West Alabama was third, Alabama-Huntsville fourth, and North Georgia came in fifth with 113 total points.

Samantha Silvers led the Lady Saints, finishing 21st overall with a time of 20:26, the fastest time by any North Georgia runner this season, while Katie Vance was right on her heels in 22nd place, posting a time of 20:29.

Taylor Hansen was third on the team, running the 5,000-meter course in 21:24, good for 32nd place overall, while Becky Dunn was 33rd overall with a time of 21:30, as both times were personal bests on the season for Hansen and Dunn.

Clare Madrid crossed the line in 21:43, rounding out the top for the Lady Saints and finishing 36th in the event, while running 45 seconds faster then her best 5k this season.

Emory University’s Rebecca Flink won the race with a time of 18:45, while her teammate Tess Gallegos was second, crossing the line in 18:55. Carolyn Mancuso of West Alabama rounded out the top three in the event, running the course in 19:08.

North Georgia will have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, October 24, at the Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted this year by UNC Pembroke at Luther Britt Park in Lumberton, North Carolina.
