MACON, GA – The North Georgia College &
State University men’s cross country team finished 12th in
the 15-team field Saturday morning at the Mercer University RunFit
Sports Invitational, the Saints fourth event in as many weeks to
open the 2009 season.
Division I powerhouse Kennesaw State University paced the field in
the 8,000-meter event, claiming the team title with 37 total
points, while Columbus State was second, Mercer University third,
and the University of West Georgia was fourth. North Georgia was
12th overall with 313 points.
Tyler Mattix led the Saints once again, finishing in 24th place
with a time of 28:11.78, while teammate Charlie McKinney was second
on the team in 66th position, crossing the line in 29:47.62.
Teale Marchette and Nicholas Bava finished third and fourth on the
team respectively for North Georgia. Marchette finished the 8K in
71st place with a time of 30:00.53, while Bava was in 92nd place
with a time of 30:54.09.
Andrew Garritson rounded out the scoring for the Saints, coming in
94th place overall with a time of 30:56.84, sending North Georgia
to 313 points.
North Georgia returns to action on Saturday, October 10, traveling
to Jacksonville State University for the Foothill Invitational, the
site of the Saints’ first race of the season.
