ERSKINE COLLEGE FLYING FLEET (24-15-1)

Erskine College enters the 2011 NCAA Tournament with an automatic bid after claiming the program’s first-ever Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship on April 17, 2011.

With a 24-15-1 overall record, the Flying Fleet of Erskine College strung together four straight wins to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Southeast Regional, allowing just five runs throughout the Conference Carolinas Tournament.

Larissa Shannon leads the Erskine in every offensive category at the plate, including batting average at .358, home runs with 10, runs batted in with 30, and runs scored with 23. She has played and started in all 40 games for the Flying Fleet, and has recorded 11 doubles and a pair of triples during the year.

Heather Richey and Kelsey Spurrier have combined for 23 of the team’s 24 wins in the circle, and have tossed 10 shutouts on the year. Richey’s 1.36 earned run average leads the staff, while Spurrier’s 132 strikeouts is a team-high.

Alleen Hawkins is in her 11th season as the head coach of the Flying Fleet after coaching stints at Furman University and the University of Georgia have the skipper with 32 years of collegiate experience.
